Lent 2014: A Retrospective

They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?”
Luke 24:32

In 1990, Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church Birmingham Michigan published a daily devotional for the season of Lent. Over the years, many of us have known the experience of opening the printed booklet (and in later years their email or this blog) and finding words that seem to have been written just for us just for that day; words with special meaning for us that the writer could not have known ... but God knows, and God finds ways of speaking to us and through us. Looking back, we see where we have been - as individuals, as people of faith, as a congregation - and see how we have been touched and changed in small and mighty ways by those who have traveled with us. Looking forward, we know that God continues to work through each of us in marvelous ways that only God knows.

This year’s devotional is a tribute to all those who have shaped our faith in great and little ways. May we so shape the lives and faith of those we meet on the road.

Ash Wednesday is March 5, 2014. Our first devotion will appear then and continue through the forty days (plus Sundays) of Lent.
